Chen Laoshi is meticulous in going over vocabulary and grammar until I am able to suitably master them. She takes her time and does not rush through the material. I had previously studied at a program where we covered a chapter a day, which was too fast paced for me. Chen Laoshi does not rush through a lesson just to finish it. She begins each class session with conversation, helping me to express myself in everyday conversation before we turn our attention to the day’s lesson. She writes all of the new vocabulary that we just used in our conversation in a Google Doc so I can easily review them.
Chen Laoshi is very understanding of my strengths, limitations and weaknesses and is very accommodating. For instance, we started with reading newspaper articles, but I was too frustrated because I did not know a lot of the vocabulary. We ended up switching approaches to reviewing some material that I had previously studied but not mastered, which is a better approach for me.

I really enjoyed how Chen Laoshi would provide a power presentation aligned with the topic she was teaching. In this presentation, she would include images to coincide with new vocabulary I was learning. In turn, it clearly visualised the words and how they are used in day-to-day situations.
She was very patient in describing the new words and would clearly repeat them as she was teaching, while simultaneously point at the image of said word on the slide. She touched on a range of topics that enhanced my Chinese vocabulary, and at the same time, utilised the HSK4 textbook to work on grammar points.
The class allowed me to remember my tones more often, as Chen Laoshi would correct me as needed. Every lesson, she would also go through some Chinese homophones, in order to practice tonal inflection properly. It has significantly helped me with my pronunciation and tonal variations.
I would recommend Chen Laoshi, as she is very kind and patient with students. She can provide personal anecdotes with what she is teaching, and she conveys the course content in a simplistic way that is easy for the student to understand. She is able to pick up the students’ strengths and weaknesses, and is prepared to focus on the latter when need be.
Overall, my experience with Chen Laoshi has been amazing and I look forward to continuing to learn Chinese with her.

I started studying Chinese with Chen Laoshi for professional and personal needs about 2 years ago. I like Chinese language and culture, that’s why I always wanted to speak Chinese but I have never had a chance to do it before. And then, I met Chen Laoshi, my Chinese language teacher, on evening language classes. I liked the way she was teaching and I decided to continue studying online with her in order to improve my language skills.
Chinese is not easy but Chen Laoshi is always ready to help and explains the difficult points thoroughly, so there are no more question left and it becomes easier to understand. The use of the new grammar and vocabulary is adapted to my needs. And we practice Chinese in dialogue as it is important for oral speech. As a result, I started speaking Chinese and writing it. Even my nine-year-old daughter studied Chinese with Chen Laoshi. She was very happy to do it and all the lessons were well- structured and adapted to her age and capacity.
Chen Laoshi always care about students’ learning results . After each lesson, she summarized and discussed different aspects for improving the lessons and teaching methods, as well as for better understanding of students’ needs.

I went from knowing almost no Mandarin to being able to write paragraphs and understand the news and television shows. This course helped me learn topics such as daily speech, politics, business, relationships, and culture. Lu Laoshi was also able to provide a lot of support in topics that interested me, for example, scientific vocabulary or medical terms as I started to work in Mandarin-speaking environments.
My favorite part of the courses is the conversational learning where Lu Laoshi demonstrates how to talk in different settings by prompting her students to answer questions that could appear in conversations. This was very helpful in understanding how to use different words and what setting they could be applied in.
I would recommend Lu Laoshi as she is very patient, encouraging, and able to teach at the pace of the student, as well as the fact that she tailors her classes to subjects that will interest her students.
